Welcome to Folkelarm. Become a Folkelarm delegate!

The Norwegian National Association for Traditional Music and Dance welcomes you to Folkelarm, the largest gathering of the international folk- and worldmusic community in Norway and the Nordic countries, and will run from Thursday 17th to Sunday 20th September, and will involve around 100 artists performing on the different venues of Soria Moria, Oslo.

Now in its fifth year, Folkelarm was initiated by the National Association for Folk Music and Dance in Norway, to provide a platform for promoting Norwegian folk music and artists to new audiences around the world.

There exists a phenomenal wealth of talent in Norway in traditional, folk and roots music, from every corner of this country. Music being produced both of musicians with Norwegian background, Norwegian musicians without a Norwegian background but leaning towards other folk music traditions - and the Sami music.

Creating links through music is what Folkelarm is all about. Folkelarm facilitates this on an international level by introducing Norwegian talent to a global network of contacts, as an integrated part within the frames of a folk music festival in Oslo

With the launching of Folkelarm, the Association has created a structure hitherto missing from the Nordic traditional music scene: a meeting-place linking performers and concert promoters. Folkelarm provides a unique opportunity to see the best established and up and coming Norwegian folk artists as well as an unique selection of artists from the other Nordic countries: Sweden, Finland, Denmark, The Faroe Islands, Island. Folkelarm also provides an unique chance to meet and discuss ideas with the leading promoters of traditional music in the Nordic countries. International music industry delegates from over 30 different countries will visit Oslo in September to sample the cream of Nordic musical talent at Folkelarm 2009.

The conference part of Folkelarm is aimed at the music business and the musicians. The seminars will be held during the day. The seminars and conference facilities are only available for registered delegates.
