Arto Järvelä (FIN)

Arto Järvelä has, over the past three decades, established himself as one of Finland’s leading fiddlers and has demonstrated profound talents as an artist, composer and multi-instrumentalist.

In 1983 Arto began his studies at the Department of Folk Music of the Sibelius Academy and graduated in 1994 with a Master of Music. During his studies he gain knowledge of new instruments such as nyckelharpa (keyed fiddle), mandolin, octave mandolin and kantele, and has been seen jamming even with jouhikko (ancient finnish bowed lyre), double bass and brushes!

Besides releasing a bunch of solo albums, Arto has contributed to more than 80 albums and is frequently described as the busiest man in Finnish folk music. He has been a member of several folk music groups among others Ampron Prunni, Koinurit, Pinnin Pojat, the Helsinki Mandoliners, Erik Hokkanen & Lumisudet, Nordik Tree and Maria Kalaniemi. However he is first and foremost known for his position as founder, second fiddler, composer and arranger of Kaustinen fiddle legends JPP.

Recently he has been doing series of solo performances, receiving enthusiastic response from audiences and critiques alike. We truly are looking forward to his Folkelarm act.
