Geitungen
The trio Geitungen presents songs that once were the pop music of south-western Norway, songs that back then occupied the Top 10 on the local dance scene – hits from a bygone era.
Geitungen performs songs as performed by the past’s masters with a soundscape coloured by the tight interplay between fiddles, accordion, mandolin, Hardanger fiddle, mandola and guitars. The form of expression is simplistic and the music on display spans the gap from intimate and warm mazurkas to hot and invigorating dances and elegant waltzes. The arrangements are spiced up with influences from contemporary popular music and today’s playing style. Through its multi-faceted and vital playing style, the trio takes the listener on a journey back in time, out on the dance floor of rural south-western Norway countryside.
Geitungen have released three albums : ‘Vaniljesaus (2001), ‘BRA FOLD’ (2005) – the latter was bestowed with the award for best record in the open / experimental class at the Norwegian Folk Music Awards, as well as ‘Langt Ute’ (2010) which sees its release this autumn. Together, the three musicians rank among the foremost interpreters of south-western Norway’s folk music – drawing inspiration from contemporary styles as well as the regions rich traditions.
