Jan Beitohaugen Granli (N)

Jan Beitohaugen Granli hails from Valdres in Norway. He has played the Hardanger fiddle most his life and has learned from great masters such as Trygve Bolstad, Tore Bolstad, Harald Røyne, Terje Chr Hansen og Olav Jørgen Hegge. – In general I pass on the fiddle traditions of Valdres, and particularly the Øystre Slidre tradition, he says.

Jan Beitohaugen Granli is a prized musician and he has won the Norwegian Competition of Folk Music and Dance (Landskappleiken) five times. He has released two solo albums: Lite nemmar (2003) and På Beitohaugen (2010), both on the Valdres record company ta:lik.

Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten kalled På Beitohaugen “inspired tunes” and described the music as “alive, emotional, down-to-earth and unvarnished. The hum of the fiddle is all-embracing while the tunes form the basis of a fantastic sound experience”
