Jorun Marie Kvernberg (N)

With a powerful fiddle style and a strong character on stage Norwegian fiddler Jorun Marie Rypdal Kvernberg is one of few folk musicians of today presenting the traditional fiddle music from Møre & Romsdal –Kvernberg’s home district.

In the course of her music Kvernberg proves the great variety that lies in this tradition presenting merry dancing tunes from the isles outside Romsdal, springar tunes inherited from her grandfather Peter L. Rypdal and colourful waltzes from Nordmøre.

This extensive repertoire of tunes has thrilled listeners both in Norway and abroad making the traditional music from her home county vibrant and of current interest. Kvernberg is known for her passion for taking traditional music to new audiences, always looking for new ways of communicating her music.

Besides being a fiddler Kvernberg is also a celebrated composer and singer. The warmth of her voice mixes with the melancholic hum of the Hardanger fiddle and produces a rich sound that is both sentimental and soothing.
Apart from being a soloist, Kvernberg is an admired ensemble musician, playing with top Norwegian folk bands such as Tindra, Majorstuen and Unni Boksasp Ensemble.
Award winning performer Jorun Marie Kvernberg never leaves her audience unmoved. At Folkelarm we anticipate nothing less than a top class act from this highly appreciated artist.
