Everything you wanted to know about Norwegian folk music but were afraid to ask!

We welcome our international delegates to Folkelarm 2011 with a fun but informative guide to some of the main instruments, sounds and forms common in Norwegian folk music. There's a painless history and geography lesson, and an introduction to some of the musicians working in Norwegian folk today. Fiona Talkington (regular visitor to Norway and presenter of BBC Radio 3's popular Late Junction programme) is your host, joined by fiddler Aslak O. Brimi, singer Camilla Granlien and dancer Sigurd Johan Heide. Tellef Kvifte (Professor of Folk Music, Oslo University) brings his authority and expertise to set you up for a fantastic Folk weekend! “

The professional scene of folk music in Norway
-An official meeting point between norwegian and foreign delegates.

A panel of representatives from the norwegian delegation will give short introductions to their fields of profession related to folk music. This is an oppurtunity to get to know a few key people of the professional scene of folk music in Norway, and maybe get answers to some of your questions.

The future of social media - what's working today and what's not? By Ariel Hyatt (NYC CYBER PR)

It’s no secret that Social Media is here to stay and now that we are all using Facebook, Twitter and YouTube on a daily basis to promote our music it’s time to look at the next steps for effective marketing.
The 90-minute event is aimed to give artists, artist managers and indie labels practical information to assist them in moving their music careers forward using social media platforms available today.
During the event Hyatt will outline some of the thinking that has made her a must-have speaker on the international conference circuit over the last several years including appearances at MIDEM, SXSW, CMJ, and ASCAP’s I CREATE MUSIC EXPO 2010 & 2011. Her bi-weekly newsletter and YouTube series “Sound Advice” has over 15,000 subscribers.
The event will be segmented into three parts. Part One will focus on an overview of Social Media and how it impacts the music business today. Hyatt will cover some key points from her books ‘Music Success in Nine Weeks’. And ‘Musician’s Guide to Facebook & Twitter’
In Part Two, Hyatt will create an open workshop working with a number of audience members on their social media and web pages. Artists, managers and labels who wish to be considered for selection for this will be asked to submit a URL or a case study to Hyatt and she will do an on the spot caucus.
Part Three will be devoted to Q and A where Hyatt will give one on one advice to those with questions.
