Viken / Brimi (N)
Aslak Brimi and Erlend Viken hold a position as two of the most appreciated fiddlers in Norway and in 2008 they joined forces in a duo format. They represent two different fiddle traditions; however their musical interaction bears no sign of differentness, but is rather characterized by an influential and interwoven power.
Brimi/Viken released their first album Duo in 2009 (Ta:lik) and was awarded a Folk Music Grammy the same year. 2011 sees the release of their second album.
Erlend Viken holds a Bachelor of Arts from the Norwegian Academy of Music and is currently busy with the eminent bluegrass band Earlybird Stringband. He is on the go as both as a soloist and an ensemble musician, and frequently tours with Frikar Dance Company, Aasmund Nordstoga and Majorstuen.
Aslak Brimi is a high school teacher, but also holds a folk music degree from the Telemark University College. He is beyond doubt one of Norway’s most important conveyers of traditional music from the Valley of Otta. Aslak fronts the folk music ensemble Svermere.
Do not miss the rare chance to experience this fine interaction of two fiddles.
