BREK

Det prisbelønte bandet BREK fra Island spiller folkemusikk med påvirkning fra jazz, klassisk og bluegrass med sterke vokalharmonier. Hvert bandmedlem har forskjellig bakgrunn og utdanning innen musikk, og alle bandets medlemmer bringer med seg noe unikt inn som skaper den spesielle «sounden» av BREK. Medlemmene i bandet fokuserer på å skape en interessant, men koselig atmosfære på konsertene deres. I tillegg har bandet fokus på den mangefasetterte bruken av det islandske språket i sine tekster. 

BREK synger hovedsakelig på islandsk, og de klarer å få det islandske språket til å høres ut som musikk i seg selv. Språket spiller en viktig rolle i å skape det musikalske landskapet, sammen med dynamikken i instrumenteringen deres. 

BREK vant årets folkealbum i 2022 på Icelandic Music Awards for deres selvtitulerte debutalbum.

BREK was formed in the fall of 2018. The band mainly plays original, folky music with influences from various sources, but the members of the band focus on creating an interesting but cozy atmosphere in their playing. In addition there is a focus on the multifaceted use of the Icelandic language in the band’s lyrics. 

The award winning band BREK from Iceland plays original folky music with influences from jazz, classical and bluegrass with strong vocal harmonies. Each band member has a different background and education in music so everyone brings something different to the sound of BREK.The band’s sound has really developed from that and therefore becomes something of its own.  

BREK mainly sings in Icelandic, and they manage to get the Icelandic language to sound as music itself. The language plays an important role in the complete sound, along with the dynamics of their instrumentation. 

BREK won Folk album of the year in 2022 at the Icelandic Music Awards for their self-titled debut album.
