EMILIA LAJUNEN

Emilia Lajunen er en finsk folkemusiker kjent for sitt personlige, sterke og moderne felespill. Spillestilen hevder hun har sin opprinnelse i arkaisk kulturarv og spelemannsmusikk. 

I 2012 gav hun ut soloalbumet “Tuurkoosi Polkupyörä”. Hun har vunnet mange priser som solist, Emilia ble “Nordisk mester” under nordisk kappleik i Sälen 2008. Emilia spiller i grupper som Juuri & Juuri, Suo,
Spontaani Vire, Ritva Vero og i duo med Suvi Oskala.  

Legacy of the Dead og Deep in the Dregs, er tittelåtene på Emilia Lajunens verk der en hel landsby full av besatte spelemenn vekkes til live og står opp fra gravene sine. De eldgamle verkene blir fusjonert med Emilia Lajunens unike spillestil og elektrifisert av Eero Grundström, Lajunens musikalske partner gjennom to tiår.  

Musikken stammer fra Emilia Lajunens doktorgrad i musikk ved Uniartsstudie ved Sibelius- akademiet i Helsinki. Materialet for Lajunens musikalske forskning vokste og utviklet seg under innspillingsprosessen, men kjernen har hele tiden vært bevegelsens og dansens innvirkning på musikken.   

Bevegelse beroliger, begeistrer, forener – den kan høres og føles. Musikken strekker seg mot verden gjennom århundrer med glemte historier. På grunn av avstanden i tide, må vi gi musikken vår fantasi, og fremfor alt tid.

Emilia Lajunen is a well-known Finnish folk musician known for her personal, strong and modern fiddle playing. Her playing style she claims has its origins in archaic heritage and fiddler music. 

In 2012 she released the solo album “Tuurkoosi Polkupyörä. She has won many awards as a soloist, including becoming "Nordic champion" during the Nordic competition in Sälen 2008. Emilia plays in groups such as Juuri & Juuri, Suo, Spontaani Vire, Ritva Vero and in a duo with Suvi Oskala. 

Legacy of the Dead: Deep in the Dregs raises a whole village full of possessed fiddlers from their archival graves. Their age-old craft is combined with Emilia Lajunen’s unique style and electrified by Eero Grundström, Lajunen’s musical partner of two decades. The two title songs were recorded from two fiddlers from the old days, Jalmari Siiriäinen and Juho Laitila.  

This music is included in Emilia Lajunen’s doctoral degree in music at the Sibelius Academy of Uniarts Helsinki. The material for Lajunen’s musical research grew and evolved during the recording process, but the core, the impact of movement and dance on the music, remained. Movement soothes, excites, unites – it can be heard and felt. 
In the old days people lived slow and indulged in quiet raptures. This music reaches towards that world through centuries of forgotten tales. Because of the distance, we must give music our imagination, and, above all, our time.
