Hazelius Hedin

Esbjörn Hazelius is one of Sweden’s leading folk music singers and strings players. Johan Hedin is a virtuosic player and innovator of the spectacular and old instrument, the nøkkelharpe.

Individually, they are two of Sweden's most valued folk musicians, and they have been very succesful on the Scandinavian folk music scene. Together they form an incredibly complete and colourful duo with brilliant and rare intimacy. With remarkable drive, Hazelius Hedin fills Swedish dance and song with music that is both catchy and touching. Their repertoire ranges from fairy tale songs and ballads to instrumental dance tunes, both traditional and newly composed.

Their debut album, Om du ville människa heta, received the group of the year award at the Folk and World Music Gala in Sweden. Their second album, Sunnan, was voted album of the year in Sweden, across all categories and nationalities. In 2012, they were invited to celebrate Paul Simon and Yo-Yo Ma with music during the Polar Prize award ceremony in Stockholm. Over the years, they have performed their music with several orchestras.

Esbjörn Hazelius (song, cittern, violin, flute and guitar) performed as part of the Jul in Folkton tour, has been a member of the groups Quilty and Eitre, and has also been a musical engine for Sofia Karlsson. In 2009, he released his first solo album, which was nominated for a prize at Grammis, Manifestpriset, and for best release at the Folk & World Music Gala.

Johan Hedin (soprano and octave nøkkelharpe, octave mandolin and vocals) is a world-renowned nøkkelharpe player and songwriter who has become a role model for many due to his way of playing his instrument. He plays in the world music group Bazar Blå, and with the concert organist Gunnar Idenstam. Johan has recorded dozens of albums, two of which are solo albums.
