Hulbækmo and Jacobsen Family Orchestra

A family that for many years has had music as a common platform has started its own family orchestra, and this summer Hulbækmo and Jacobsen Family Orchestra released their debut album, På Snei, on the record label Ta:lik.

Hans and Alf were, from a young age, travelling together with their mother and father Tone and Hans Fredrik on tours both at home and abroad, and have gradually gone their own ways musically. In the Orchestra, the family meets in an exciting arena where each one contributes with their own very personal form of expression. They want to create a fertile and playful musical universe that crosses genres.

The Family Orchestra has a living musical family tradition that goes back three generations, from grandparents to parents to grandchildren. Together, they have also travelled around the world and have been inspired by folk music from different cultures, by people they have met, and by the songs and music they have picked up.

They throw all of this into their musical pot, which is the family's alone. With folk music as a base, everybody comes with their contributions from jazz, impro, blues, medieval music and self-composed music, and this is boiled up. The result is a very personal musical potion, where one can recognise elements from different genres, but distilled here in their own unique way.

Hulbækmo and Jacobsen Family Orchestra have had a number of successful performances, amongst others at Jazzfest in Trondheim, Vinterfestspill at Røros and at Røros Folk Festival. They create a lively atmosphere, and they really give of themselves.

The combined members of the Orchestra have received many prizes including, amongst others, three Spellemannpriser (Norwegian Grammy).
