Showcase 2017
Miman is an unpredictable trio consisting of Hans Kjorstad (fiddle), Andreas Røysum (guitar and clarinet) and Egil Kalman (bass and synth), all prominent musicians on the young Scandinavian jazz/impro scene.
The members play, amongst others, with a number of well-known people, such Håkon Thelin, Frode Haltli, Christian Wallumrød, Kresten Osgood, Frode Gjerstad, Axel Dörner and Tobias Delius, as well as in bands like Billy Meier, Kjorstad Brothers, Boda Boda & Fennel.
The band's expression is shaped by their different backgrounds and points of reference, where Scandinavian, British and Indian folk music blend seamlessly with bursts of energy inspired by free jazz. The three distinct voices create an organic sound, where the tonal and the textural melt together with the acoustic and electronic, where styles and ages dissolve. As a way to get a coherent band expression, while keeping the possibilities open for the music to end up on unforeseen paths, the trio never decides the musical process in advance. The music is made there and then, it is improvised freely in a living, harmonious, and non-dogmatic way.
Miman has, since forming in the autumn of 2015, played concerts throughout the Nordic countries as well as in Russia, Germany, The Czech Republic and Italy, and is coming to Folkelarm straight from a tour of Europe which also takes them to Poland and Austria. The trio’s debut album is expected at the beginning of 2018.
