Ole Nilssen
Showcase 2017
Ole Nilssen (b.1993) from Løten is a young and already highly respected folk musician. Earlier this year he released his first solo album, the focus of which is solo tunes played on the accordion. Ole comes from a folk music family in Hedmark and his father and grandfather were his mentors during his upbringing. Through studying at, amongst others, The Norwegian State Academy of Music, he has both worked with the tradition and explored the reaches of the music from his home area. His album, Premiér, is a portrait of Ole as a tradition bearer, and contains everything from fragile listening tunes to dance tunes in the tradition of the devil himself.
He shares the great need for outside impulses typical in people from Hedmark, and places the old traditional music from the area in a modern context. In 2015, he won Folkelarmprisen (Folkelarm Prize) with the group Rustad / Nilssen / Ranøien, and the following year he received the Løten municipality's cultural prize for his work with the music in his home area. Ole is also a dancer and has twice won the A-class at Landskappleiken (Norwegian National Folk Music Competition).
