Gard Nergaard
Music from Marnardal, the home region of fiddler Gard Nergaard, has a lyrical and melodic trait that differs markedly from other musical styles found in the neighbouring regions.
The valley marks the border between counties eastern- and western Agder, and perhaps one could go as far as describing the region as a melting pot of a number of different national as well as international traditions. The region’s music style is characterised by a steady, pulsating beat with a strong drive.
Whether if it is this melting pot that have helped shape Nergaard’s musical temperament will be left unsaid, but what remains certain is that he is a performer with a contemporary and multi-stylistic orientation coupled with a solid foundation in local traditions.
Gard Nergaard was trained by fiddlers Halvdan Furholt and Paul Sveinall, both solid and respected performers from the Agder region, as well as respected jazz violinist Sebastian Grüchot.
Last year saw the release of the album ‘Dalstroka innafor’ – created in companionship with fiddle players Tor Hoslemo and Johanne Flottorp. The album was produced by Daniel Sandén-Warg.
