MARTIN STEINUM BRUN  (NO) - Årets unge folkemusikkartist 2024

Martin Steinum Brun er songar og tradisjonsberar frå Vågå i Gudbrandsdalen. I hans musikk står nærleik, formidling og historieforteljing sentralt. Med ei sterk tilstedevering leiar han lyttaren med seg inn i folkesongen sine mange forteljingar, alt frå det absurde og humoristiske til det nakne og personlege. Han nyttar òg tradisjonelle instrument som kraviklyre og bygdeharpe i sitt uttrykk.

Dei siste åra har han markert seg som ei sterk stemme på den unge norske folkemusikkscena, og vart seinast kåra til Årets unge folkemusikar under Folkelarmprisen 2024. I tillegg til sitt arbeid med folkemusikk jobbar han jamleg med prosjekt innan andre musikktradisjonar, og kan vise til samarbeid med ensemble som Det Norske Solistkor og Kringkastingsorkesteret (KORK). Slik flettar referansar seg frå både klassisk musikk, tidlegmusikk og populærmusikk inn i hans eige musikalske univers.

Sumaren og hausten 2025 reiser han på turné som Årets unge folkemusikar 2024, og Folkelarm er nest siste stopp på denne turnéen. På Folkelarm presenterer han sine favorittar frå songskatten i Gudbrandsdalen.

MARTIN STEINUM BRUN (NO) – Young Folk Musician of the Year 2024

Martin Steinum Brun is a singer and tradition bearer from Vågå in Gudbrandsdalen, Norway. His music centers around intimacy, storytelling, and communication. With a strong stage presence, he draws the listener into the many tales found in traditional folk songs—ranging from the absurd and humorous to the raw and deeply personal. He also incorporates traditional instruments such as the kraviklyre and bygdeharpe into his expression.

In recent years, he has emerged as a strong voice on the young Norwegian folk music scene and was most recently named Young Folk Musician of the Year at the Folkelarm Awards 2024. In addition to his work in folk music, he regularly engages in projects across other musical traditions and has collaborated with ensembles such as The Norwegian Soloists’ Choir and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra (KORK). As a result, references from classical music, early music, and popular music are woven into his own musical universe.

In the summer and autumn of 2025, he is touring as the Young Folk Musician of the Year 2024, and Folkelarm is the second-to-last stop on this tour. At Folkelarm, he will present his favorite songs from the treasure trove of Gudbrandsdalen's vocal traditions.
