Solju

Thursday 22:30 & Friday 19:50

SHOWCASE:
Thursday: Taket 22:30
Friday: Hovedscenen 19:50

Solju was formed by Ulla Pirttijärvi and her daughter Hildá Länsman. In their world, traditional North Sami joik and new music meet. Sami culture and identity lies at the heart of their music, which illuminates the mythology and aspects of the traditional lifestyle in their home country furthest North in Europe: Sápmi.

Solju are proud of their indigenous roots and want to show them to the world. Their soundscapes range from the endless and wild tundra to the campfire in the small and intimate lavvo. Their music can be described as lively, colourful, earthly, ethereal and real.

Solju’s debut album «Ođđa Áigodat» (Nordic Notes, April 2018) was produced by Samuli Laiho and Teho Majamäki with newly written music played by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. At Folkelarm, these two unique Sami artists will play with the experienced percussionist Teho Majamäki and keyboardist Janne “Burton” Puurtinen, best known from the Gothic rock band HIM. Solju’s goal is to tour the world, and after the Riddu Riđđu festival this summer, Folkelarm will be their second performance in Norway.
